More than 1200 years ago, the first collection of verse was compiled in Japan. Known as the Manyo'shu, this collection is still treasured by lovers of the arts.

The Manyo'shu features 25 poems about Mt. Tsukuba. Today, these verses are still teaching us about how this large number of people gathered at Mt. Tsukuba and the kind of culture that they nurtured.

At the beginning of the 21st century, Tsukuba is once again attracting attention. As the home of 15,000 scientists, and as a beatiful green city that is fostering a new culture, Tsukuba brings in people from all over the world to come and share their knowledge.

Welcome to Tsukuba, a gathering place since the days of the Manyo.
