  • 1st International Workshop on Graph Data Management: Techniques and Applications (GDM 2010)
    chaired by Sherif Sakr and Wei Wang (University of New South Wales, Australia)
    Recently, there has been a lot of interest in the application of graphs in different domains. They have been widely used for data modeling of different application domains such as chemical compounds, multimedia databases, protein networks, social networks and semantic web. With the continued emergence and increase of massive and complex structural graph data, a graph database that efficiently supports elementary data management mechanisms is crucially required to effectively understand and utilize any collection of graphs. The overall goal of the workshop is to bring people from different fields together, exchange research ideas and results, and encourage discussion about how to provide efficient graph data management techniques in different application domains and to understand the research challenges of such area.

  • DASFAA2010 Workshop on Large-scale Image and Video Archives (LIVA2010)
    chaired by Shin'ichi SATOH (National Institute of Informatics, Japan) and Ichiro IDE (Nagoya University, Japan)
    Recent advance in data storage technology has enabled the onlinedigital archiving of massive amount of image and video data. Meanwhile,the Internet could also be considered as a large-scale distributed archive. This workshop focuses on the issues surrounding the development and organization of such archives, analyses, retrieval, and applications of the archived data.

  • 2nd International Workshop on Benchmarking of Database Management Systems and Data-Oriented Web Technologies (BenchmarX'10)
    chaired by Jiri Dokulil, Irena Mlynkova and Martin Necasky (Charles University, Czech Republic)
    BenchmarX'10 is aimed at benchmarking (and related issues) of all stages of data processing in the context of up-to-date database management systems and data-oriented web technologies in general. Typical (but not the only) representatives of such applications and technologies can be web services and semantic web services, Web 2.0 applications, social networks etc. Similarly, new data types, such as data streams, sensor data or imprecise/uncertain data, triggered proposal and implementation of new strategies for their storage, processing and management that need to benchmarked, tested and compared specifically. Even though data management and data-oriented applications are involved in topics of many conferences around the world, the community dealing with benchmarking of such applications and related issues is still scattered. The aim of BenchmarX is to bring it together and provide a platform for common discussion of all the related topics.

  • 3rd International Workshop on Managing Data Quality in Collaborative Information Systems (MCIS2010)

    The importance of managing data quality has increased manifold in today's global information sharing environments, as the diversity of sources, formats and volume of data grows. In this workshop we target data quality in the light of collaborative information systems where data creation and ownership is increasingly difficult to establish. Collaborative settings are evident in enterprise systems, where partner/customer data may pollute enterprise data bases raising the need for data source attribution, as well as in scientific applications, where data lineage across long running collaborative scientific processes needs to be established. Collaborative settings thus warrant a pipeline of data quality methods and techniques that commence with (source) data assessment, data cleansing, methods for sustained quality, integration and linkage, and eventually ability for audit and attribution. The workshop will provide a forum to bring together diverse researchers and make a consolidated contribution to new and extended methods to address the challenges of data quality in collaborative settings.

  • Workshop on Social Networks and Social Media Mining on the Web (SNSMW)
    chaired by Yoshinori Hijikata (Osaka University, Japan) and Guandong Xu (Victoria University, Australia)
    Today the emergence of web-based communities and hosted services such as social networking sites, wikis and folksonomies, brings in tremendous freedom of Web autonomy and facilitate collaboration and knowledge sharing between users. Along with the interaction between users and computers, social media are rapidly becoming an important part of our digital experience, ranging from digital textual information to diverse multimedia forms. These aspects and characteristics constitute of the core of second generation of Web. The 1st International Workshop on Social Networks and Social Media Mining on the Web in conjunction with DASFAA 2010 will bring together the academia, researchers and industrial practitioners from computer science, information systems, statistics, sociology, behavior science and organization science discipline, and provide a forum for recent advances in the field of social networks and social media, from the perspectives of data management and mining.

  • Data Intensive eScience Workshop (DIEW 2010)
    chaired by Isao Kojima(AIST), Kento Aida(NII), Geoffrey Fox(Indiana U), Neil Chue Hong(OMII-UK) and Masatoshi Oishi(NAOJ)
    Data is a key aspect of the scientific research and the amount and the complexity of scientific data is rapidly increasing. Creating the computer infrastructure which can extract scientific knowledge by linking, processing and analyzing these distributed and diverse data is a crucial issue. This e-Science infrastructure is also a basis for constructing digital repositories which can archive and share valuable knowledge among science communities. As the climate change problem shows, scientific research needs to be conducted collaboratively on a global scale and the distributed data infrastructure which can support various science communities would be indispensable. Based on this motivation, this workshop aims to bring scientists from diverse fields together, and to serve them an opportunity to share their research experiences on how data intensive computing has been facilitating scientific discoveries.

  • 2nd International Workshop on Ubiquitous Data Management (UDM2010)
    chaired by Yutaka Kidawara (NICT, Japan) and Ki-Joune Li (Pusan University, Korea)
    Ubiquitous computing and network technologies are establishing a new generation information society. A wide variety of digital data is available anywhere and at anytime. In this context, new challenges emerge for real-world-aware data management technologies and applications. The 2nd international workshop UDM2010 aims to tackle new emerging issues for various ubiquitous information platforms. In particular, objective is to focus more on issues related to data management (acquisition, storage, retrieval, and delivery) and knowledge processing (information credibility analysis, correlation analysis and ambient intelligence ) for wide variety of digital data in real world. The 1st international workshop on Ubiquitous Data Management (UDM2005) has held at Tokyo in 2005, which was in conjunction with ICDE2005. Since then, ubiquitous devices and network environment has been improved and complicated during 5 years. Various information services are available at indoor and outdoor now. We, however, are facing more serious research objectives related to not only data management, but also knowledge processing on the ubiquitous information platform. The goal of UDM is to bring together researchers and practitioners from both data management and ubiquitous computing. It aims at investigating the new challenges that Ubiquitous Data Management technologies have introduced and new ways through which these technologies can improve existing data management solutions.
